Barça are back in action in La Liga and hope to do so with a win. Ahead of a key week, Hansi Flick could introduce some important changes
Barcelona FC host Sevilla at the Estadi Olimpic Lluís Companys on Sunday in matchday 10 of LaLiga 2024/25. Hansi Flick's men hope to pick up the three points in the first league game after the international break and maintain their advantage over Real Madrid, who they will face next weekend in the first Clásico of the season.
Hansi Flick's team is preparing to face a key week for the rest of the season, as in addition to facing the Merengues next Saturday, they will also host Bayern Munich in the Champions League. For this reason, the German could introduce some changes to the starting eleven to avoid an injury to an important player. Below, we show you the possible starting lineups for Barcelona and Sevilla:
Possible lineups for the Barcelona vs Sevilla match
- FC Barcelona's starting XI: Iñaki Peña, Koundé, Pau Cubarsí, Íñigo Martínez, Balde; Raphinha, Pedri, Casadó; Ansu Fati, Lamine Yamal y Lewandowski
- FC Barcelona's bench: Szczesny (P), Eric García, Pablo Torre, Pau Víctor, Frenkie de Jong, Fort, Gavi, Fermín López, Gerard Martín, S. Domínguez, Astralaga.
- FC Barcelona injured players: Christensen, Ronald Araújo, Marc Bernal, Ter Stegen, Ferran Torres.
- FC Barcelona players suspended: Ninguno.
- Sevilla's starting XI: Nyland, Carmona, Badé, Marcao, Pedrosa; Gudelj, Agoume, Peque; Lukebakio, Isaac Romero, Ejuke.
The Seville side are one of Barça's favourite 'victims' in recent years, with the Catalans having won 5 of their last 5 league games against each other, a streak that could continue this season.
Xavier García Pimientra's men are in a slump and have yet to win away from home, while Flick's men remain unbeaten at Montjuïc. Below, we review all the positions in Barcelona's possible starting XI against Sevilla.
Portería: Iñaki Peña
Although Wojciech Szczesny has already finished his preparation and is expected to start from the start, Hansi Flick is expected to stick to his position at a Peña who, a priori, has the club's trust. However, it would not be a surprise if the Pole is in charge of being between the posts on Sunday, which would be a clear message from the coach for the upcoming matches against Bayern and Madrid.
Defensa: Koundé-Cubarsí-Iñigo Martínez-Balde
No unexpected changes are expected in defence. While Iñigo Martínez and Alejandro Balde stayed in Barcelona during the international break and had enough time to rest, Pau Cubarsí barely had any minutes with the Spanish team and Jules Koundé, despite playing 180 minutes with France, has had practically a week to recover, so Flick would bet on his favourite defensive quartet of the season.
Media: Marc Casadó-Rapinha-Pedri
There could be a surprise in midfield. The Barça coach is expected to have Fermín López, Gavi and Dani Olmo in his squad, who have recovered from their injuries. They would join Frenkie de Jong, Pablo Torre, Pedri, Marc Casadó and Raphinha in a midfield full of alternatives. However, everything points to Flick not forcing the players who have just left the infirmary and would maintain a trident that has given him good results in the games in which they have played together.
Delantera: Raphinha-Lewandowski-Ansu Fati
The most important change to the starting eleven could take place up front. Lamine Yamal suffered an overload with the Spanish national team that forced him to return to Barcelona to avoid a major injury. However, after a week of recovery he could start.
The change could be caused by Ferran Torres' injury. Flick could opt to bring on Ansu Fati, who could start for the first time this season alongside Robert Lewandowski and Lamine Yamal in the Barça forward line.
