With a stellar performance from the bench, Gerard Martín was key for Barça in a crucial match against Leganés (0-1)
Gerard Martín had to replace the injured Alejandro Balde before the break. The full-back, once again, responded to Hansi Flick's confidence, securely covering the left flank. In addition, the '35' participated in the play that led to Jorge Sáenz's own goal, which ended up giving FC Barcelona the victory in Leganés's field (0-1).
In the 48th minute, Gerard took advantage of a mistake in Lega's exit to pass the ball to Raphinha. The Brazilian, for the first time in the match, had time and space to overflow on the left, placing a cross to the heart of the area that, if it had not been deflected by Sáenz, would probably have been a goal by Robert Lewandowski. In that sense, the '35' explained the keys to the victory in Butarque.
"They were well positioned and it was a bit difficult for us to give rhythm to the ball at the beginning to find the spaces. In the second half we improved it quite a bit", Martín argued in the post-match talk with 'Cataunya Ràdio'. In the 49 minutes he was on the field, the full-back only missed 7 of 28 passes (75% accuracy), in addition to recovering a couple of balls.

Gerard Martín does not trust Madrid in the final stretch of LaLiga
On the other hand, Gerard valued being able to sleep as leaders with a greater advantage (seven points), although the defender does not, by any means, consider the fight for LaLiga with Real Madrid closed. "They still have to play and there are many matchdays ahead. But we are more relaxed to get this momentary advantage and see that the end of the League is approaching", he argued.
In addition, he made clear what the team's position is heading into the final stretch of 24-25. "We know that we have not done anything yet. There is a lot left and we will fight until the end", the azulgrana full-back pointed out. Waiting to know Balde's medical report, it is very likely that Martín will be a starter on Tuesday in Dortmund, for the return of the Champions League quarter-finals.
