The harsh defeat of FC Barcelona against Atlético de Madrid (1-2) marked the third consecutive loss at Montjuïc. It is the second time in its history, and the first in 39 years, that the team has suffered a similar streak
FC Barcelona matched on Saturday its worst streak of consecutive home defeats in LaLiga. For the first time in 39 years, the azulgrana team has three consecutive losses at home. Against Atlético de Madrid (1-2), in addition, the culés ended an unbeaten streak of more than 18 years in the tournament against the 'colchoneros', who had not earned three points at Barça's ground since February 2006.
The match, unlike the duels against Las Palmas and Leganés, started very well for Hansi Flick's team. Pedri González opened the scoring in the 30th minute, making justice to the overwhelming azulgrana dominance in the first half. However, an unexpected goal from Rodrigo De Paul in the 60' brought 'Aleti' back into the game. Towards the end, Barça pushed for victory and, in the last action of the match, a lethal counter from the 'colchoneros' resulted in the 1-2 scored by Sorloth, in the 90+6'.
The two worst home streaks of Barcelona in LaLiga
The first time Barça lost three consecutive LaLiga matches was at the beginning of the 1965/66 season, already with Camp Nou as the club's stadium. Roque Olsen, who remained in charge until 1967, was the culé coach. That season, curiously, one of the azulgrana's defeats was against Atlético de Madrid, the team that ended up winning the title. Barça finished third, behind Real Madrid, in a transitional season for the culés. Olsen remained in charge for one more year but was dismissed at the end of the 66/67 season due to poor results.
- FC Barcelona 1-2 Valencia, on October 3, 1965.
- FC Barcelona 1-4 Atlético, on October 17, 1965.
- FC Barcelona 0-1 Zaragoza, on November 14, 1965.
In the 2023/24 season, the streak of azulgrana losses at Montjuïc unexpectedly began against UD Las Palmas. The Canarians surprised Hansi Flick's team, who until that moment had won all their home matches, both in LaLiga and in Champions. After that, Leganés and Atlético followed suit. In the case of the 'pepinero' team, it was their first victory on Catalan soil, something the 'colchoneros' had not achieved since February 2006 (18 years).
