LaLiga published this Wednesday the ranking of TV rights revenue from last season, a table led by FC Barcelona with a total of 162.5 million euros. The blaugrana team surpassed Real Madrid (159.5 'million') despite not being able to defend the title obtained in 22/23. Interestingly, that season it was the 'merengues' who earned the most money from TV (161.2M€, while Barça obtained 160.5M€).
According to the Royal Decree on Centralized Sale of TV Rights, signed by the clubs of the association in 2015, the culés managed to surpass their 19 rivals in the tournament due to their "social and sporting impact". LaLiga distributes 50% of the TV revenue equally among the 20 clubs in the First Division. The other half is divided into several sections where the blaugrana team has a significant advantage.
The Keys to Barcelona's Leadership in the TV Rights Ranking
On one hand, Barcelona gains an advantage from the so-called "social implantation revenues", which account for 25% of the total. This includes season ticket sales, TV audiences, social media impact, and other factors that tip the balance in favor of the culés. In this sense, the club surpasses Real Madrid by collaborating more with the broadcasting of matches, allowing its players to give pre and post-match interviews, along with 'Media Day' for the matches against Atlético de Madrid and the 'White House'.
The 'merengues', on the other hand, are much less accommodating with the association's press. The remaining 25% is linked to each club's sporting results over the last five seasons. After Barça and Madrid, only Atlético (117.8M€) surpasses the 100 million mark in earnings.
Sevilla (72.4M€) and Real Sociedad (70.7M€) complete the TOP-5. A total of 1.498 billion euros was distributed, 27 'million' less than the previous season and 87M€ below the historical peak recorded in 2021/22 (1.585B€). In the Second Division, Espanyol was the club with the highest revenue (26.3M€).
