The Barça-Atlético de Madrid match will finally be played at Montjuïc. Due to several factors, LaLiga has given up on the idea of taking it to Miami
FC Barcelona-Atletico Madrid will not be played in Miami. Although the Catalan club was in favour of this move due to the significant amount of money that the promotion of the Barça brand in the United States meant, LaLiga has finally decided that the match, scheduled for the weekend of 21 and 22 December, will be played at the Olímpic de Montjuïc.
According to 'SPORT', sources from the Catalan club have explained that the club has given up on the idea because the organisation presided over by Javier Tebas considers that it is not the time to take the match to Hard Rock in Miami due to the tragedy that occurred in Valencia and also because of the interim status of the Spanish Federation, something that makes decision-making very difficult.
Another failed attempt by LaLiga
LaLiga is aware that there are currently other priorities, such as, for example, the adjustment of the Copa del Rey calendar after the multitude of matches postponed following the catastrophe caused by the DANA in Valencia. However, they do not rule out the move to Florida taking place next year.
Thus, the employers' association is once again encountering obstacles in its attempt to bring a match to Miami. In 2019, it tried to move a Girona-Barça and a Villarreal-Atletico de Madrid match, failing on both occasions. Barça, for its part, has seen a 'lever' slip through its hands, as they expected to earn around six million euros for this match.
