LaLiga has requested precautionary measures to prevent FC Barcelona players, Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor, from participating for the remainder of the season.

LaLiga has requested urgent precautionary measures to prevent Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor from playing for the rest of the season. This action is part of a contentious-administrative appeal filed against the recent resolution of the Superior Sports Council (CSD), which allowed the registration of both footballers until the end of the current season.

LaLiga argues that this resolution violates the regulatory framework related to economic control and sports licenses, compromising the integrity and competitive balance of professional competition. The CSD had given the green light for the registration of Olmo and Víctor after considering a previous agreement between LaLiga and the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) null, which denied the licenses. According to the CSD, this body did not have the authority to make that decision. Furthermore, the CSD justified its position based on the right of professional athletes to develop their careers with guarantees.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM LALIGA ON DANI OLMO AND PAU VÍCTOR

LALIGA has filed a contentious-administrative appeal and requested precautionary measures against the Resolution of the Superior Sports Council of April 3, 2025, which upholds the appeal filed by FC Barcelona before the CSD, resolving:

  • “...upholding the appeal filed by Mr. Pere Lluís Mellado Bailo, acting on behalf of and representing the FCB, and by the players of said club, Mr. Daniel Olmo Carvajal and Mr. Pau Víctor Delgado, annulling the agreement of the RFEF-LaLiga Coordination Agreement, dated January 4, 2025, by which the prior visa and the definitive license requested by FC Barcelona for the mentioned players is not granted, also understanding that they have a valid license, in accordance with the terms expressed in the legal grounds”.

In this regard, LALIGA believes that the Resolution seriously violates the regulatory framework regarding economic control and the processing of sports licenses, undermining the general interest of the competition and compromising its integrity, by breaking the principle of equality among clubs. All of this justifies the need for an urgent judicial response that, through the adoption of the requested precautionary measures, guarantees competitive balance and the financial sustainability of professional competition.

The judge will communicate his decision by the end of April or early May

With this move, LaLiga seeks an urgent judicial response to suspend the players' licenses while the substance of the appeal is studied. If the precautionary measures are accepted by the judge, Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor will not be able to play until the case is resolved. Conversely, if they are denied, the footballers will be able to continue competing until a final ruling is issued, which could occur after the season ends.

The judicial decision on the precautionary measures could take several weeks due to various factors such as non-working days for Holy Week. It is estimated that the judge could rule on this matter by the end of April or early May.
