FC Barcelona hosts Real Sociedad this Sunday (16:15 CEST) in a special match for Robert Lewandowski. The '9' will seek revenge after the goal that VAR 'stole' from him at Anoeta in the first leg.

Calendar of FC Barcelona

Robert Lewandowski will have two clear objectives in mind for the upcoming FC Barcelona-Real Sociedad match next Sunday in Montjuïc (16:15 hours). On one hand, the Pole will aim to extend his lead over Kylian Mbappé in the LaLiga top scorers' ranking. The '9' was unable to score against Las Palmas last week, ending a streak of four consecutive matches with goals, but he remains the top scorer with 20 goals, three more than the Real Madrid forward.

Additionally, 'Lewy' will seek revenge against a San Sebastián team that already frustrated the Catalans in the first leg in San Sebastián, mainly against the experienced Catalan 'killer'. In the first half, Robert scored a legitimate goal in the 13th minute that was disallowed for a non-existent offside. The image taken by VAR, directed that day by Del Cerro Grande, was manipulated to make the foot of the azulgrana attacker cross the line of defender Nayef Aguerd. In the end, the victory went to Real Sociedad with a goal from Sheraldo Becker (1-0).

Lewandowski will look to break his drought against Real Sociedad

On the other hand, Lewandowski will seek his fourth goal against the 'txuri urdin' team and his 63rd with the Barça jersey in 94 matches played in LaLiga. The '9' scored a brace in his first encounter against Real (1-4 in August 2022) and scored again in the rematch at Camp Nou (1-2 in May 2023), but he has not been able to score against the Basques in his last three encounters.

Barcelona won both matches last season, 0-1 in San Sebastián and 2-0 in Montjuïc, but the azulgrana goals came from Ronald Araujo (in Anoeta), Lamine Yamal, and Raphinha (in the victory in Catalonia). So far, Robert has scored 33 goals in 33 official matches in the 24/25 season and is on track to complete his best season in Spain. The experienced forward's scoring record is 55 goals in the 19/20 season, with Bayern Munich under Hansi Flick, who won the treble during the pandemic.
