As on matchday 1 against Valencia, FC Barcelona came from behind to beat Rayo Vallecano with a notable reaction in the second half (1-2). The entry of Dani Olmo changed the face of a sleeping team in the first 45 minutes and, thanks to the goals from Pedri and the new Barça reinforcement, Hansi Flick's men maintain the perfect pace and the leadership of LaLiga EA Sports at the beginning of the season. This is how we saw Barça on an intense night with several controversies in Vallecas.
Ter Stegen: Inactive
He could have done more on Unai López's initial goal, since the shot was not as powerful or cornered. Afterwards, he participated little in the game due to the few attacks from the Madrid team.
Koundé: Intense
The Frenchman once again displayed a remarkable physique, projecting himself on several occasions in attack to try to partner with Lamine Yamal. He did not fall for the provocations of Rayo's attackers and, beyond getting hooked on the 1-0 play (he enabled De Frutos), he had an acceptable night in Vallecas. His stomp on Chavarría ended up annulling Lewandowski's goal in the 71st minute, in a controversial play reviewed by judge Soto Grado on the monitor.
Cubarsí: Orderly
The youth player was the best of the culé defense in the first half, clearing several dangerous balls and taking the lead in moments of pressure. He came close to converting with a header in the 80th minute, but Lejeune cleared it in the six-yard box.
Iñigo Martínez: Brave
He completed another good game, very dedicated to the mark and always attentive to covering the backs of Cubarsí and Gerard Martín. When Barça suffered the most in the game in the first half, they tried with a shot that, although it did not create danger in the rival area, woke up a team that took 20 minutes to finish on goal.
Gerard Martín: Overcome
He replaced Alejandro Balde and was clearly surpassed by De Frutos on several occasions, one of them leading to Unai López's initial goal in the 9th minute. In the second half he had less work against a Rayo team that was clearly surpassed in football and physically. Balde came on in his place in the 65th minute.
Marc Bernal: Demanded
The youth player suffered during the first 45 minutes from the pressure of a Rayo that dismantled the Barça midfield. Although he was overwhelmed at times, he managed to recover to give balance to the team in the complement. In stoppage time he tried a good mid-range shot, cleared with difficulty by goalkeeper Cárdenas.
Pedri: Scorer
He looked uncomfortable throughout the first half, very stressed when trying to give a hand to Bernal in the recovery and with few ideas when taking the ball in the opposite field. Like the rest of the team, he was infected by the good football of Dani Olmo in the complement, much more incisive as a playmaker. On the hour mark, he took advantage of a pass from Raphinha from the left to finish with his left foot entering the area, a precise shot that surpassed goalkeeper Dani Cárdenas to equalize the actions. He suffered a blow before the end that forced him to leave as a precaution.
Raphinha: Assistant
He was very busy in the first half, moving from the right side, as an inside player, to the center of the area as a second striker without much significance. With the entry of Olmo he returned to the left side, much more active in attack. He almost scored from a direct free kick in the 55th minute with a shot that brushed the crossbar. In the 60th minute he assisted Pedri in the tying goal. He had previously done the same with Lewandowski on an occasion wasted by the Pole.
Ferran Torres: Inconsequential
Flick kept him in the XI and the Valencian, once again, was the weakest of the culé offensive trident. After 45 minutes in which he did not contribute anything as a left winger, Dani Olmo replaced him after the break.
Lamine Yamal: Electric
He was the most active of the Barça attack, forming a good tandem with Koundé in several passages in the first half. I claim a penalty foul by Espino that ended in just a clash between both players. Although he hardly stepped into the area in the second half, he was always a differential with the ball at his feet. He demanded Cárdenas with a cross shot that ended in Lewandowski's goal being disallowed. In the 82nd minute, he managed to easily overtake the right and assist Dani Olmo to turn the score around.
Robert Lewandowski: Jinxed
The Pole participated little in the game in a first half where Barça lacked depth. He missed an incredible chance at the start of the second half after a low pass from Raphinha that he failed to push into an empty goal. The '9' had revenge in the 71st minute, capturing a rebound from goalkeeper Cárdenas to finish after taking a few seconds before finishing crosswise, with a small angle and blocked by two rivals. However, the goal was annulled due to a previous foul by Koundé on Chavarría.
Dani Olmo: Crack
He made his official debut in Vallecas by replacing Ferran at halftime. He fell in the area in the first action in which he participated after a knockdown by Lejeune that both the main César Soto Grado and the VAR did not consider a penalty. His entry changed the face of the team, giving Barça greater depth in the center of the field. In the 58th minute he almost scored with a shot from outside the area that hit the crossbar. The man from Terrassa completed his dream debut with a great goal in the 82nd minute, taking advantage of a pass from Lamine almost from the baseline to hit a placed left footed shot into the back of the net.
Fermín López: Residual
He replaced Pedri in the 90+1 minute to oxygenate the midfield of a Barça team that suffered more than necessary in the final minutes.
Pau Víctor: Testimonial
He entered for Lamine Yamal in injury time. He was only on the field for five minutes.
