FOR A FACT ABOUT THE CARDS RECEIVED BY THEIR RIVALS

In its latest report, Real Madrid Television criticised LaLiga referees for the number of warnings their rivals receive compared to FC Barcelona during the first four matchdays of the 2024/25 season

Real Madrid's television channel continued its usual 'crying' about referees on Monday with reports in which they denounce the alleged mistakes of the referees against the 'merengue' team. According to the 'RMTV' report, Carlo Ancelotti's team is the second team with the worst balance of cautions in the first four days of the season, since their rivals have only received a couple of cards (Pablo Maffeo, from Mallorca and Marcos André, from Valladolid), while the Madrid squad has already accumulated 6 yellow cards and 1 red against.

On the contrary, FC Barcelona is the team against which their rivals have received the most cards, with a total of 13 yellow cards so far (2 for Valencia, 5 for Athletic, 3 for Rayo and 3 for Valladolid). On average, Barça's opponents have received three yellow cards per game so far in the league, but what Madrid's television does not report is the number of fouls that the Catalans suffer in each matchday.

Valencia, for example, committed 11 fouls at Mestalla in matchday 1 while Valladolid committed a total of 12 fouls last Saturday in Montjuïc. The team that has committed the most fouls so far has been Rayo, with up to 17 infractions in the matchday 3. In the case of Athletic, there were a total of 16 fouls committed in the matchday 2 played on Catalan soil. In four matches, Barça have been fouled 56 times, one of them sanctioned as a penalty (in Valencia).

Madrid remains firm with its media agenda against referees

After Barça, Valencia and Villarreal appear, with 12 cards for their opponents in the first four games of La Liga, followed by Real Sociedad (11) and Alavés (10). According to Madrid, of the five major European leagues, only Udinese (1 card in 3 Serie A games), RB Leipzig and Bochum (1 card in 2 Bundesliga games) show a disciplinary average similar to that of the 'Casa Blanca' in 2024/25. Instead of self-criticism for their poor performance so far in the tournament, with four first halves to forget, at Concha Espina they insist on putting pressure on the referees to tip the balance in their favour in La Liga. Nothing new in Florentino Pérez's plans.
