Mbappé sent off: Straight red card for Madrid's '9', and he could miss the Cup Clásico!

Real Madrid is not having a good time in LaLiga. Against Alavés, Carlo Ancelotti's team lost their top scorer and main figure, Kylian Mbappé, due to an absurd sending-off that highlights the bad moment in the 'merengue' dressing room. In the 38th minute, the French striker was sent off for a very harsh late tackle on Antonio Blanco, planting his studs on the right leg of the 'blanquiazules' player.

César Soto Grado, initially, chose to caution 'Kiki'. However, Jesús Gil Manzano, today in the VAR, called the main referee to review the play, understanding that it was an infraction worthy of expulsion. The decision did not take long, as the images from the broadcast were evident. Mbappé left Madrid with ten men before halftime and may suffer a harsh punishment after a foul that could have caused a very serious injury to Antonio Blanco.

First expulsion for Mbappé in LaLiga and possible sanction of 4 matchdays

For the Bondy native, this is his first expulsion as a Real Madrid player and the fourth of his career at club level, as he saw three red cards for Paris Saint-Germain between 2017 and 2024. In LaLiga, a straight red usually carries a sanction of 1 to 3 matches, depending on the severity of the infraction, the referee's report, and the circumstances in which the red card is sanctioned. For example:

1. Serious foul or minor aggression: 1-2 matches.
2. Violent aggression or serious unsportsmanlike conduct: 2-3 matches or more, if the Competition Committee considers it.

In exceptional cases, such as insults to the referee or extreme violence, they can result in greater sanctions, even of 4 matches or more. Mbappé's tackle on Antonio Blanco, without a doubt, can be considered of extreme violence, since the '9' goes directly to hit, with the studs of his left foot, without the possibility of touching the ball.

The final decision depends on the Competition Committee of the RFEF. In case of receiving a sanction of 4 matches, Kylian will not be able to play the Clásico of Copa del Rey final against FC Barcelona in Montjuïc. 

The Soto Grado report states that "in the 38th minute, player (9) Mbappe Lottin, Kylian, was sent off for the following reason: For diving with his foot in a plank position at the level of an opponent's shin, while fighting for the ball, using excessive force." Therefore, Madrid is confident that the forward will not be suspended for more than 2 or 3 matches, which would not jeopardize his presence in the Cup final.
