FC Barcelona could have a significant absence this Saturday against Las Palmas. One of the Barça centre-backs left the match against Brest with discomfort and is a serious doubt for Saturday
FC Barcelona will face UD Las Palmas this Saturday (14:00 CEST) with several uncertainties in their starting XI. In addition to the absence of Marc Casadó (sent off against Celta), Hansi Flick could be forced to make another adjustment in defence due to the possible loss of one of his centre-backs. This Thursday, Iñigo Martínez suffered from muscle discomfort that he has been carrying since Tuesday's match against Brest and his presence against the Canaries is seriously at risk.
The Ondarroa native played the 90 minutes against the French, but came out with an apparent overload that would leave him out of the line-up for the second time this season. For now, the Basque only missed out on the match against Osasuna (Barça lost 4-2), a match where Flick opted to rest him and trust Sergi Domínguez. In the end, the bet went quite wrong, with this being the only match in 2024/25 where Barça has conceded more than four goals.
Iñigo has accumulated 1,596 minutes of action this season in 18 games in which he has scored two goals and assists. Together with Pau Cubarsí, the '5' has formed the most solid duo in LaLiga, as both lead the tournament in passes made and passes completed, starting in 17 of the 19 games that Barça has played between La Liga and the Champions League.
Eric García and Sergi Domínguez, facing a great opportunity against Las Palmas
If Martínez's absence is confirmed, Flick would have to bet on Sergi Domínguez or Eric García against Las Palmas. The 19-year-old defender started against Villarreal and Osasuna, as well as adding minutes in the second half against Valladolid, Monaco and Red Star. However, in the League, he has not played since the visit to Pamplona, a match in which he left serious doubts as Cubarsí's partner.
For his part, the player from Martorell would be the most sensible option to replace the '5', as long as he fully recovers from the pubalgia that he has been suffering from for more than a month. Eric was injured in the warm-up prior to Barça-Sevilla on October 20. Although it was expected to see him back in the squad against Celta, he only reappeared on Tuesday against Brest, a match in which he did not add any minutes. Before his injury, the '24' added 448 minutes spread over 9 matches.
Others who could reappear in the match corresponding to matchday 15 of LaLiga are Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres. In principle, the '19' is the one who has left the best sensations in recent training sessions, while the '7' expected to receive medical clearance the first week of December, but would also be ready to play again. The 'Shark' was injured on October 6 in Mendizorroza, while Lamine was 'KO' after the visit to Red Star, on November 6.
