LaLiga announced the winners of its monthly awards. In the category of best Under-23 footballer, Pedri González took the honors thanks to his outstanding participation with an FC Barcelona team that scored full points (three victories against Alavés, Sevilla and Real Madrid) in October.
The Tenerife native won the best young player category over Eduardo Camavinga (Real Madrid), Luka Sucic (Real Sociedad), Pablo Barrios (Atlético de Madrid) and his former teammate Vitor Roque (Real Betis).
For LaLiga, the distinction of the '8' culé did not allow discussion. Pedri scored a great goal against Sevilla (5-1) and, although he did not score or assist in the Clásico against Madrid (0-4), he was one of Barça's best. The midfielder had a 91% passing success rate and was the Barça player with the most interventions in the match (71).
Pedri, 'rejuvenated' with Barça in 2024/25
After receiving the distinction, the 21-year-old player was happy for Barça's great start to the season. Regarding the award, he assured that he will keep it in his display case, waiting for more awards of this type to arrive to continue helping the team.
In that sense, Pedri joked about his age, which allowed him to enter that category of LaLiga's monthly awards. "I feel a little younger with this award, yes, because people already see me as a veteran, but I'm still young," he said, laughing.
For Barça, this is the second award for the best Under-23 player of the season, after Lamine Yamal obtained the distinction in August. In September, Alberto Moleiro (Las Palmas) was chosen as the best young footballer of the tournament.
For the Tenerife native, 2024/25 has been a turning point, after two seasons marked by injuries. At the moment, the '8' culé has 3 goals and 1 assist in 11 LaLiga games.
In addition to Pedri, Robert Lewandowski won the 'MVP' award for October, while Hansi Flick was named, again, as the best coach of the month. Barça closed the third month of the competition with three wins, two of them away from home (0-3 against Alavés and 0-4 against Real Madrid).
