Pedri González spoke to the press after FC Barcelona's defeat against Leganés (0-1). For the Tenerife native, there are no excuses for starting "asleep" in a match

Calendar of FC Barcelona

Pedri González took a critical look after the harsh defeat of the FC Barcelona against Leganés (0-1). For the Tenerife native, the key to Barcelona's drop in LaLiga comes down to two key factors: the lack of sharpness and intensity and defensive lapses in the first minutes. The '8' was the best in Barcelona's midfield, completing 116 passes (93%), recovering 9 balls, and generating two goal opportunities.

"A tough match, to be honest, it's impossible to leave happy today. We started asleep and that’s how they scored their goal. Then we woke up, but we didn’t have that spark to reach the goal and score", argued the Tegueste native in an interview for 'DAZN'. In that sense, he made clear the importance of starting each match more focused and replicating the intensity they have shown in the Champions League.

Pedri, upset by Barcelona's collective drop

Similarly, the midfielder ruled out attributing the team's decline to fatigue from the schedule. "I don’t think we are at the level we are showing in Europe, in LaLiga we drop the intensity", he added minutes later in a chat with 'Esport 3'. Pedri was the only Barça player who spoke to the press after the match and did not hesitate to take a critical stance after a defeat that was, moreover, historic, as Leganés had never won at Barcelona's ground.

"This is one of the toughest defeats we have suffered so far in LaLiga. Anyone can beat you, Las Palmas comes and Leganés beats you at your home. That cannot be, we are Barça", pointed out the '8' in blue and garnet. For the fans, it was the fourth loss in the tournament and the second consecutive at home. Additionally, the team extended its slump since November, with only one victory in the last six league matches.
