The FC Barcelona could be making a significant turn regarding its plan to return to the Spotify Camp Nou, a scheduled return for December 2024, likely on December 22, a date on which the Culés would face Atlético de Madrid in an exciting match corresponding to matchday 18 of LaLiga EA Sports 2024/25. This match would mark the end of 2024 for the Barcelona team, at least in terms of official commitments.

However, this roadmap could be slightly disrupted, why? This is not due to a possible delay in the works at the Culé stronghold or something of the sort, but rather to a decision by LaLiga, which could choose to move the match between the Blaugranas and the Rojiblancos to the United States, specifically to the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, as part of an initiative to internationalize the competition and provide a significant financial boost for both teams.

LaLiga has good prospects for realizing this initiative

Despite this, as suggested in 'Relevo', this initiative is not yet official, as LaLiga has not formally presented the proposal to the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). Likewise, the relevant meetings with the Spanish Footballers Association (AFE) have not taken place either. However, the prospects for the league to persuade both the RFEF and the AFE to carry out this initiative are very promising, given that LaLiga's institutional relationships with these two bodies seem to be in a rather optimal state.

Not only that, for the league, there is also another positive scenario. FIFA, which through its international regulations not only threatened to sanction clubs that accepted this proposal, but also made it clear that any institution proposing such an initiative needed to obtain a series of permits (from UEFA, RFEF, the American Confederation, the US Federation, and the MLS) at most 21 days before the event, now has a more flexible stance on these types of initiatives.

It is worth noting that back in April, FIFA reached an agreement with Relevent Sports, a sports events promoter, on the need to study the option of bringing European league commitments to the United States. This came after the promoter sued the United States Soccer Federation (US Soccer) and FIFA for "closing the country's doors to international football". In response, the governing body of international football committed to reviewing its rules regarding this matter.

The other alternative that Javier Tebas is considering to internationalize Spanish football

Now, apparently, the American option is not the only alternative being considered by Javier Tebas, president of LaLiga, to expand the presence of Spanish football internationally in case the plan to hold the match between FC Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid in Miami in December does not materialize. Currently, he is working on another similar project as a backup in case his first strategy fails.

As also mentioned in 'Relevo', the league intends to organize a friendly tournament in early January 2025 in Abu Dhabi, in which the Culés and the 'Rojiblancos' will participate along with other foreign teams. Joan Laporta and Enrique Cerezo have approved this proposal. However, adjustments would be necessary as the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey takes place at the beginning of 2025 and LaLiga resumes on the 10th.
