Real Madrid beat Leganés (0-3) and are now 4 points behind Barça in the league table. Mbappé, Valverde and Bellingham, the top scorers
Real Madrid returned to action in LaLiga EA Sports 2024/25... and did so leaving more doubts than certainties. The Merengues visited Butarque to face Leganés on the fourteenth day of the championship, and managed to take the three points with a resounding victory (0-3) justified by the mistakes of the rival and not by their own merits.
The whites 'enjoyed' a false superiority throughout the 90 minutes, since despite seeming better than their opponents on the pitch, they did not manage to impose themselves in the game. The first half of the match was a real 'mess', with the pepineros going from more to less and paying 'dearly' for an error by Altimira, which was taken advantage of by a Vinicius Jr. who gave the ball to Kylian Mbappé so that he could open the scoring with a shot at ease under the goal.
Madrid close the gap on Barça
After returning from the changing rooms, the tone of the first 45 minutes continued in the second half. The Madrid players threw themselves into attack looking to increase their lead and the home team barely gave Thibaut Courtois, who was returning from injury, any trouble. Fede Valverde put some distance between them in the 66th minute with a shot from outside the area and, 5 minutes from the end, Bellingham sealed the match by taking advantage of a rebound in the six-yard box.
In this way, Carlo Ancelotti's team took advantage of FC Barcelona's last two slip-ups and closed the gap in the league table. The Whites have 30 points, just four behind the Catalans with a game in hand. However, if they maintain the performance shown this Sunday, it seems only a matter of time before the Catalans are once again separated at the top of the championship.
