Tebas launches a strong criticism of the CSD: What implications does it have for Barça in the 'Olmo case'?
The president of LaLiga, Javier Tebas, once again criticized the final ruling of the Superior Sports Council (CSD) favorable to FC Barcelona regarding the registrations of Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor. The government body sided with the azulgrana team, stating that both LaLiga and the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) were wrong to deny the licenses of both players mid-season.
Through a statement shared on his social media, the league president asserted that annulling the agreement of the Monitoring Commission is "a legally disproportionate and excessively formalistic measure", as the decision to deny the visas of the azulgrana players fell to the Competition Directorate through LaLiga Manager, something that neither party has formally contested.
📌 MY LEGAL OPINION ON THE CSD RESOLUTION
— Javier Tebas Medrano (@Tebasjavier) April 5, 2025
After several hours calmly analyzing the CSD resolution, I want to express my total disagreement with the criteria adopted in the case of the FC Barcelona licenses.

Tebas insists on appealing the CSD ruling
"We are facing a clear case of extreme formalism, where the essential is ignored —that the decision had already been made in accordance with the law (Competition Directorate)— and an overemphasis on a wording to justify an intervention that, honestly, seems more political than legal. And this is not just about a specific resolution. It is about defending the coherence of the system, respect for technical procedures, and legal certainty," adds Tebas.
In this sense, the president of LaLiga asserts that this case could set "a very dangerous precedent", which is why the competition he leads "will continue to defend its processes and competencies", in accordance with the established regulations. As soon as the final ruling of the CSD was known last Thursday, the league announced that it would appeal the measure before the Administrative Court, although it is unlikely that, legally, there will be a way to reverse the Council's decision.
Calm at Barça despite Tebas's attacks
For his part, the president of Barça, Joan Laporta, also spoke about the case, asserting that the club continues to fight "against everything and everyone" to be able to continue competing in LaLiga. In addition to the controversy over the licenses of Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor, the azulgrana team must resolve the mess related to the sale of the VIP boxes at Spotify Camp Nou.
This operation represents an income of 100 million euros, crucial for the club to sign without restrictions from the financial 'Fair Play' next summer. Regarding the future of the attacking midfielder and the forward, the CSD ruling ensures that both players can, in principle, play with Barça without any restrictions from now until the end of their respective contracts.
