Celta and Real Madrid played out a real great game this Saturday, with permanent back-and-forth, in Balaídos (1-2). In the end, individual quality saved the 'merengues'
Real Madrid added its seventh victory on the tenth day of LaLiga EA Sports 2024/25 in Balaídos against a combative Celta de Vigo (1-2).
Claudio Giráldez's men played a brave game, one on one, but the strength of Vinicius Jr. and Kylian Mbappé was enough for Carlo Ancelotti's men to add three points with which, for the moment, they equal the line of FC Barcelona at the top from LaLiga (24).
The match started with a frenetic pace, with very clear arrivals in both areas. Vinicius had the first chance before the minute of play, but was blocked by an opponent before finishing on goal.
Swedberg had two ideal opportunities to 'dunk' in the next seven minutes, but he had no aim in the one-on-one against Courtois who saved the Swede's second using his reflexes.
A golazo of Mbappé did the difference in the first part
In the midst of the give and take, Madrid warned with a powerful long shot from Valverde pocketed by Guaita in the 10th minute. The center of the field was a highway of free movement on both sides of the field and Carlo Ancelotti was a victim of helplessness due to the chaos that, in general terms, was his team, receiving a yellow card in the 15th minute for protesting. The goal could fall in any goal and it was the 'merengues' who managed to hit first.
It was in the 20th minute, when Kylian Mbappé took advantage of a pass from Camavinga after an error on the way out by Fran Beltrán. The one from Bondy, unmarked, lined up to take a left-footed shot from the edge of the area, unstoppable for Guaita.
Despite the blow, Celta did not give up and managed to score a goal as soon as they got out of the middle, but Borja Iglesias was ahead when he scored against Courtois.
The match became more physical in the last 20 minutes of the first half, with Madrid controlling half of the field. Vinicius and Camavinga came close to scoring with two high shots, but the 0-1 remained until half-time.
Furious reaction from Celta after the break
Both teams returned without changes from halftime and the posture of Galicians and 'merengues' remained intact. Bellingham was close to 0-2 in the first half, with a shot slightly off target. However, it was Celta that managed to hurt the white background, thanks to a good collective play culminated by Swedberg.
The Swede had revenge in his third head-to-head against Courtois, this time assisted by former FC Barcelona player Óscar Mingueza. The full-back easily overtook the ball after combining with Bamba and served the pass to the middle for the '19' to finish completely alone.
Vinicius appeared to save Real Madrid
Celta besieged Madrid in the next ten minutes and Ancelotti reacted by removing Camavinga and Valverde for Modric and Rodrygo. In the first play in which he participated, the Croatian filtered a perfect pass to resolve the game.
The '10' caught the diagonal of Vinicius, who easily unmarked himself and, with some luck, finished in the race before Guaita left. The Galicians bravely sought an equalizer, but Courtois and the white defense sustained the result. The last one, by Douvikas alone against the Belgian goalkeeper, was a reflection of the bad fortune of the locals.
For Madrid, Borussia Dortmund now comes for the Champions League, at home, just before hosting Barça next Saturday in the first Clásico of the season. The culés will arrive in Chamartín with less rest, as they must play on Sunday against Sevilla and on Wednesday against Bayern Munich, both duels in Montjuïc.
