David Alaba's injury has reportedly reached a critical stage. The centre-back's recovery has been delayed more than expected and his career is reportedly in jeopardy

David Alaba's physical condition is beginning to be a serious problem for both the player and Real Madrid. The 32-year-old defender is close to completing a year since he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in a match against Villarreal and still cannot see the end of the tunnel. The player has been recovering for eleven months and the prognosis is still not positive, and there are even fears of the worst and his sporting career could be in jeopardy.

The Austrian's recovery is going slower than expected, and although, in principle, the deadlines marked his return for this month of October, finally the player's return could occur next year. Alaba continues to have discomfort and on 'Onda Cero' they have raised the alarm by reporting that the defender "has reduced cartilage, which makes the bones of his knee rub together and he is in a lot of pain."

Madrid are already looking for a centre-back in the transfer market

This unfortunate situation has forced the Madrid team to 'comb' the transfer market in search of a reinforcement for the defence, since, as of today, Carlo Ancelotti has Militao and Rüdiger as permanent centre-backs, Aurélien Tchouaméni as a 'patch' and a Jesús Vallejo who barely counts. A real 'drama' for the Merengues, who also suffered the loss of Dani Carvajal for the rest of the season.

Thus, at the Santiago Bernabéu they have encountered a 'major' setback that could lead to the retirement of one of their 'heavyweights'. However, until now this scenario would be a rumour and the club is hoping for the return of an Alaba who continues to work at Valdebebas to put an end to this 'ordeal'. Meanwhile, the Whites have already started work to reinforce a rearguard that has been extremely depleted in the winter window.
