Ademola Lookman is once again making headlines on FC Barcelona's radar. For price and quality, the Nigerian seems to be a much more cost-effective option than Nico Williams and Rafael Leao.
FC Barcelona is keeping an eye on Ademola Lookman as an alternative for their attack. The club insists on signing a natural left winger next summer and the '11' of Atalanta continues to make a case to stay on the Blaugrana radar. After winning the Europa League by demolishing Bayer Leverkusen in the final (he scored a 'hat-trick'), the London-born player maintains a very high level with Gianpiero Gasperini's side.
This season, the Nigerian international has kept his usual level with the 'Dea'. In 30 matches, the 27-year-old forward has scored 17 goals and provided 7 assists, 10 goals more than Rafa Leao and 11 above Nico Williams. In terms of assists, both the Portuguese (8) and the Basque (7) are on par with the '11' of Atalanta, but both wingers have undoubtedly been below the expected level in the 24/25 season.
Ademola Lookman, a cost-effective signing for Barça's finances
Especially the younger of the Williams, who after a brilliant Europe in Germany completed a first half to forget with Athletic. Leao, for his part, has been part of the troubles of an AC Milan that is struggling in Serie A. The '10' has been the subject of harsh criticism from the fans and the 'rossonera' press, a factor that seems to have finally worn down the relationship between the Almada native and the San Siro club.
And, in terms of the market, Ademola would also be a much more cost-effective signing. Atalanta could greenlight his departure for a figure close to 50 million euros, 10 'kilos' less than what Nico would theoretically cost. Not to mention Rafa, for whom Milan would hardly accept less than 80-90M €. Furthermore, the Nigerian's salary (around 2 million net this year) would not be a problem for the Blaugrana's 'Fair Play'.
Where the African 'crack' has less advantage is in the age factor. Although 27 is not an advanced age, Barça prioritizes incorporating slightly younger players, with an average age close to 23-25 years. Will Deco manage to convince Joan Laporta to go for Lookman this summer?
