Barcelona on alert: The hidden clause that could alter the 'Nico operation'. The FC Barcelona is closely monitoring the movements surrounding Nico González, the current midfielder for Porto, who could be on Manchester City's radar to strengthen their squad before the winter transfer window closes. The English club, managed by Pep Guardiola, could activate the player's release clause, valued at 60 million euros, which would represent a significant financial benefit for the Catalan team. However, a hidden clause could significantly change the outcome of the operation.

A transfer with economic implications for Barcelona

Nico González, 22 years old, left Barcelona in the summer of 2023 for Porto after not having enough opportunities in Xavi Hernández's scheme. Since his arrival at the Portuguese club, he has become a key player in midfield under the direction of Martín Anselmi. His performance has been remarkable, with 29 matches played this season, of which he has started 27, proving his worth and establishing himself as an essential player for the 'dragons'.

For Barcelona, the possible sale of Nico by Porto would represent an unexpected financial injection, as the Catalan club retained 40% of any future sale in the transfer agreement. If City pays the 60 million euro clause, Barcelona would receive 24 million, a crucial amount given the club's delicate financial situation.

The clause that could reduce Barcelona's profit

However, according to information published by the Portuguese newspaper 'Record', Porto could activate a previously unknown clause that would allow them to buy back 20% of Barcelona's stake in Nico's future sale. If the Portuguese club exercises this option, they would only have to pay 6 million euros to Barcelona, significantly reducing the amount the Catalans would receive in the event of a sale to Manchester City.

If this clause is executed, Barcelona would no longer receive the initially expected 24 million, but their stake in the operation would be reduced to 12 million, adding the 6 million from Porto's buyback, reaching a total of 18 million. Ultimately, Porto would save 6 million euros in payments to Barcelona and optimize their own profit from the sale of the Galician midfielder.

A strategic move by Porto

This move by Porto is part of an economic strategy to maximize their gains and minimize the profit that Barcelona could obtain from the operation. All of this, of course, under the condition that Manchester City ultimately decides to pay the full 60 million euro clause to acquire Nico González.

The situation is still developing and could change in the coming days. Meanwhile, at Camp Nou, they remain attentive to the events, as this operation could represent an unexpected source of income or, on the contrary, a substantial reduction in the expected amount.
