Arsenal has set Alexander Isak as their main target to strengthen their attack. What will Barça do?

Calendar of FC Barcelona

Arsenal is set to go for a goalscorer this summer, and all indications point to Alexander Isak being the chosen one by the 'Gunners' management. The need for a reliable striker has been evident throughout the 2024-25 season for Mikel Arteta's side, and the 'killer' from Newcastle fits the profile of a dynamic and lethal '9' that the team needs to fight for the Premier League title next season, a goal that has eluded the club for over two decades.

From England, the latest reports indicate that Isak's price may have significantly decreased. Initially, Newcastle was asking for around 150 million euros for their star, but it has been mentioned that the price could be around 90 'million', an affordable figure for the budget of most of the English 'big six'. FC Barcelona, for its part, is also keeping an eye on the future of the Stockholm native, being one of the most valued forwards as a possible replacement for Robert Lewandowski.

Arsenal willing to make a record transfer for Alexander Isak

In this regard, portals like 'TEAMtalk' and 'OneFootball' claim that Arsenal is willing to make the Swedish player their most expensive signing in history. For now, this honor belongs to Declan Rice, a midfielder for whom the London club paid 116 million euros in 2023. Behind the former West Ham player is Nicolas Pépé, who arrived at the Emirates Stadium in 2019 for 80 'million'. The operation was a complete fiasco, as the Ivorian, now at Villarreal, left for free to Turkish Trabzonspor in 2023.

If Newcastle insists on asking for more than 100M € for their goalscorer, the 'Gunners' could put up to 120M € on the table for the 25-year-old forward. So far in the 2024-25 season, Isak has scored 23 goals and provided 5 assists in 33 matches, being key in winning the League Cup, the first domestic title for the 'Magpies' in over 70 years.

Discussions about a contract extension for the goalscorer have been suspended at St. James Park after the player rejected the club's initial offer. This has left his future in 'limbo', although he still has three more years on his contract with Newcastle. Notably, the club's president, Yasir Al-Rumayyan, has closed the doors to the sale of '14', meaning there is no fixed minimum price for his sale.
