Viktor Gyökeres has his days numbered at Sporting CP. In England, besides Chelsea, Arsenal is also preparing a big offer for one of the forwards on FC Barcelona's radar.
FC Barcelona will have a lot of competition in the Premier League for Viktor Gyökeres. Although the Swedish forward seems inclined to wait for a Barcelona offer, both Arsenal and Chelsea are willing to fill Sporting CP's coffers with an offer that could set a record for the Portuguese league. The 'gunners' are currently the most interested in the 26-year-old player, whose contract expires in 2028, but who seems to have his days numbered in a team that appears to be in free fall.
On Sunday, the forward reached 35 goals in 37 matches this season with the goal that made it 0-2 against AVS. However, the team managed by Rui Borges could not maintain the lead and conceded their third consecutive draw, meaning they now share the top spot with Benfica, both tied at 53 points. Barcelona's next opponent in the Champions League did win in matchday 23, 3-0 at home against Boavista.
The offer Arsenal is preparing for Viktor Gyökeres
According to the English portal 'CaughtOffside', Mikel Arteta's side would be willing to put 100 million euros net for the Swedish international, as signing a 'top' scorer is an absolute priority for the Spanish coach. Gyökeres had already been mentioned at the Emirates Stadium as a possible winter reinforcement, but the club ruled out making high expenditures in January. Looking ahead to the summer, the 'gunners' market plan will be very different.
In recent times, Arsenal has shown it is capable of making significant expenditures. The club invested nearly 200 million euros in Kai Havertz (75M €) and Declan Rice (120M €) in 2023 and, in 2020, paid 80 million for Nicolas Pépé, a signing that turned out to be a complete failure. Meanwhile, Barça is also waiting for the right moment to attack the signing of the Sporting '9', although the renewal of Robert Lewandowski complicates the arrival of another 'killer' this year.
