Serhou Guirassy said goodbye to the Champions League with a historic 'hat-trick'. Should Barça consider the Guinean as a reinforcement for 25-26?
FC Barcelona advanced to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League despite Serhou Guirassy. The Guinean made history by becoming the first striker capable of scoring a perfect 'hat-trick' against Barça (he scored with his head and both feet) and he said goodbye to the tournament as the top scorer of the tournament, with 13 goals.
In addition, the Arles native had the pleasure of scoring 5 goals against the 'culés' in 3 matches, as he had also scored a double in the defeat on matchday 6 of the league phase (2-3). However, the 29-year-old striker also became the first player to be eliminated from the Champions League in a match where he scored 3 goals.
In total, Guirassy has 28 goals and 9 assists in 40 matches (3,369 minutes) with a Dortmund that has disappointed in the league and cup this season. Hence, both Barça and other 'heavyweights' of Europe are interested in his future for the next market.
Why would Guirassy be a strategic signing for Barça?
The 29-year-old striker has a contract until 2028 and, for the moment, has not given any indication of wanting to change his mind next summer. The '9', however, is no stranger to the interest of other giants of Europe in his signing.
The Germans paid 18 'kilos' for his transfer last summer, but his market value already reaches 40 million. In that sense, it is unlikely that Borussia will let him go for less than €35M, an amount difficult to assume for a Barça short of cash to reinforce.
Guirassy, being a natural center forward, with experience and a low profile, could fit very well in Hansi Flick's squad. Ferran Torres has not done a bad job relieving Lewandowski (the 'Shark' has 16 goals this season), but clearly his records are more discreet.
Barça prefers to wait to make a big investment for a '9'
Hence, the club does not rule out going for another scorer next summer, as 'Lewy' will turn 37 in August and the idea is to gradually relieve him of the burden of being the team's 'killer'. Serhou would be a very interesting reinforcement, but the board has other priorities to address next summer.
In any case, Barça will remain attentive to the future of the Guinean, one of the great surprises of 24-25. If Dortmund agrees to lower his exit price (for around €30M), the club may change its mind. This, as long as there is enough money in the bank to sign under the 1:1 rule.
Looking ahead, the club has options such as Viktor Gyökeres or Erling Haaland in sight, both strikers practically impossible to afford this year. For this, the club would have to sacrifice one of its 'jewels', something ruled out in the medium term.
