FC Barcelona continues to keep an eye on Francisco Trincão's future at Sporting CP, especially now that he is attracting interest from City and United. Why?
The FC Barcelona closely monitors the situation of Francisco Trincão at Sporting Club de Portugal. In the 2024-25 season, the 25-year-old Portuguese forward has experienced a significant increase in his performance, currently scoring nine goals in 40 matches, making him one of the top scorers for the Lisbon team, only behind Viktor Gyökeres (35) and Conrad Harder (10).
Additionally, with the 13 assists he has provided this season, he leads Rui Borges's team in this category. All of this has sparked interest from several clubs that may make a proposal for him in the near future.
It is worth mentioning that when FC Barcelona sold Trincão to Sporting CP in 2023, they secured, as in many other contracts for young players, a buy-back option for €25 million and, more significantly for Barcelona, 50% of the capital gain in a future sale. This means that Barça would receive half of any profit obtained by the 'Lions' when selling the right winger for more than the €7 million they originally paid for him.
City and United join the 'race' for the signing of Francisco Trincão
Recently, it has been reported from Portugal that the two major English clubs, Manchester City and Manchester United, have shown interest in signing the forward. According to 'A Bola', both the 'citizens' and the 'Red Devils' are closely monitoring Francisco Trincão, not only for his sporting abilities but also for other significant reasons.
It has been emphasized that Manchester United's interest in Trincão is motivated by Rúben Amorim, the current coach of the team, who played a crucial role in the forward's development during his time at Sporting CP, where he provided the necessary confidence for him to become the stellar player he is today. On the other hand, Manchester City's interest is attributed to their sporting director, Hugo Viana, who succeeded Txiki Begiristain in the role and has a prior connection with Francisco, as he brought him to the Lisbon team when he was the sporting director.
FC Barcelona remains attentive to the future of the Portuguese forward
The outcome of this potential transfer is uncertain, as there is a possibility that Sporting CP may renew Trincão's contract, which expires in 2027. This could change the course of negotiations, which FC Barcelona will closely follow, especially if any of these clubs attempt to activate his €80 million release clause, a challenging task, but if successful, would represent a significant profit for the Catalan team.
Considering that Barça would receive half of the capital gain, that is, half of €73 million, it would be approximately €36.5 million. A substantial amount for a player they parted with in 2023.
