FC Barcelona could be interested in Viktor Gyökeres. This signing, without a doubt, would provide an extra quality to the culé forward line, especially considering that Robert Lewandowski's goodbye is already beginning to be seen on the horizon and a top scorer is required who can take over

Calendar of FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona is aware of the need to plan for generational succession, especially concerning the position of '9', currently held by Robert Lewandowski. Despite the notable increase in the Polish player's goal-scoring statistics, with four goals in five matches so far in the 2024/25 season, the 36-year-old's age and the approaching end of his contract in 2026 raise the question of who should succeed him in the Blaugrana forward line.

Initially, an internal solution with Pau Víctor could be considered, who has shown reliability when called upon. However, it is clear that Barça may be interested in making a significant signing that excites the Culés, combining youth and talent.

FC Barcelona Reportedly Tracking Viktor Gyökeres

Under this premise, as suggested by the website 'Fichajes.net', FC Barcelona is said to be interested in Viktor Gyökeres, a 26-year-old Swedish forward who currently stands out as one of the premier goal-scorers in the world. The Swede has emerged as a 'top' name at Sporting Club de Portugal, netting seven goals and providing three assists in the first five matches of the 2024/25 season, as well as with the Swedish national team, where he recently scored three goals and provided two assists during the September international break, including a goal and two assists against Azerbaijan and a brace against Estonia, matches valid for Matchdays 1 and 2 of the Nations League C.

However, Barcelona is aware that acquiring the Swedish forward will not be a simple task. Why? Firstly, due to his high cost, as Gyökeres has a release clause of €100 million. Secondly, because they are not the only team interested in the hotshot in Europe, with reports indicating that clubs like Arsenal are also keen on his services.

Nevertheless, it is clear that the case of the Swedish goal-scorer would be a matter to address for the upcoming summer, both due to the current economic situation of the Catalan club and the player's desires. He is aware that, despite attracting interest from other elite teams, the high value of his release clause could hinder his transfer. In his own words: "Of course, I want to play at the highest level. The €100 million release clause is probably too high, and that's why nothing has happened. Of course, it's a lot of money. But we'll see what happens in the next transfer window... Nothing has happened, and I feel that I've had a fairly good season. So yes, probably because of that (the clause), no transfer has occurred."

Despite this, it is undeniable that FC Barcelona has him on their radar as a highly attractive option to strengthen their offensive line. His main strength lies in being a natural finisher with outstanding goal-scoring instinct and prowess, supported by a range of technical skills including the ability to play well with his back to goal, link up with teammates, and exploit available spaces. He is an extremely well-rounded striker and a choice that Barça cannot afford to overlook.
