Chelsea joins the race for Leao: What will happen with Barça?

Calendar of FC Barcelona

Rafael Leao may have his days numbered at AC Milan. The team's poor results this season and his complicated relationship with the coach have marked him as one of the culprits of the 'crisis' at San Siro, so everything indicates that the player will seek a change of scenery next summer. FC Barcelona, aware of this situation, is closely monitoring him, but they are not alone in the race.

The Catalans would have the Portuguese as one of their top priorities for the next season, but the operation will not be easy. Firstly, the 'rossoneri' would demand a figure close to his release clause, to let him go, but in addition, several of the major clubs on the continent are also tracking the winger.

The latest to join the bidding would be Chelsea. According to 'Calciomercato', the London club wants to take advantage of the good relationships with the Lombard team to acquire one of the most coveted pieces in the market during the summer window, as they believe he fits the profile sought by Enzo Maresca for their attack and would represent a quality leap in this area of the field, where the performances of players like Pedro Neto or Jadon Sancho have not been convincing.

Chelsea's plan to sign Leao

However, the 'blues' would not be willing to pay such a high figure as the one demanded by the Milanese to acquire Leao's contract. For that reason, they are considering including Joao Félix, currently on loan at the 'rossoneri', to lower the cost of the operation and secure the 'cat in the bag' for a considerably lower price.

As of today, there have been no concrete movements regarding this, but negotiations could heat up in the coming weeks if the Londoners intensify their interest in the player. Meanwhile, at Can Barça, they remain attentive to the situation and are also exploring ways to finalize the arrival of the Portuguese to the Catalan capital, but for now, all options remain on the table and Leao's future is more open than ever.
