FC Barcelona does not rule out adding another defensive pivot in the upcoming summer market. In England, there is a very appealing 'low-cost' option: Thomas Partey
Thomas Partey's future seems to be leading him back to LaLiga in 2025. The latest information points to FC Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid as possible destinations for the Arsenal midfielder, whose contract expires in June 2025. The Ghanaian joined the 'gunners' in 2020 for 50 million euros, after five seasons with the 'colchonero' team.
The player from Odumase Krobo was one of Diego Simeone's indisputable players, but he did not hesitate to accept the call from a London team with which he has had many ups and downs due to physical problems. Last season he played only 16 matches (883 minutes) due to a right thigh injury that, fortunately, he has fully recovered from. In the 2024/25 season, he has regained his usual solidity, scoring a couple of goals and providing an assist in 21 appearances (1,727 minutes).
Could Barça be interested in Thomas Partey next summer?
In this sense, Partey has once again been on the radar of several big clubs, including Barça. The Catalans ultimately did not sign a defensive pivot this season and, thanks to the emergence of Marc Bernal and Marc Casadó, they have found the midfield balance that the team has missed since Sergio Busquets' departure. However, looking ahead to the summer of 2025, the management understands the need to bring in a player with more experience for the pivot position, and the profile of the Ghanaian fits very well.
In addition to his experience in LaLiga and the Premier League, the 31-year-old player would arrive on a free transfer. However, Thomas would have to agree to lower his salary a bit, as the nearly 10 million euros net that he earns at Arsenal may be too much for Barça's tight salary cap. Likewise, the former 'rojiblanco' player would come to compete for a spot in Hansi Flick's XI, as the coaching staff maintains its full confidence in the Bernal-Casadó duo.
