There is no doubt that Marc Bernal is one of the players who are destined to be the future of FC Barcelona. The 17-year-old Spaniard has shown talent, passion and commitment in the team now managed by Hansi Flick. For this reason, the Blaugrana board has decided to improve the conditions of his contract, which ends in 2026.

Bernal underwent surgery on September 9 to resolve a tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee with involvement of the eternal meniscus. The surgery was a complete success and was performed by Dr. Joan Carles Monllau, who has already operated on star players of the culé club such as Gavi, who is still recovering from a similar injury, and Alexia Putellas, leader of the women's team. The footballer will be off the field for at least 12 months, but that is no impediment to committing to the club that has given him all its support.

The details of Bernal's contract extension

According to information provided by 'Mundo Deportivo', everything has already been agreed to renew the player's contract and the official announcement could be made in the next few days. Let's remember that this summer, Bernal extended his commitment to the Blaugrana team until 2026 with three optional years, but now things have changed.

The new agreement will last until 2026 and his license will continue to be with the Juvenil or Barça Atlètic, although he will have a contract with the conditions of the first team, as if he had played 15 official matches, which represents a great economic improvement. In this case, the clause of the three optional years will not be executed, because they want to wait for his evolution in the next few months.

This small but significant change is the way the board has of thanking him for all the work he has done and a way of motivating him, letting him know that they count on him for the long term. Bernal will now have to support the team from the outside, while players such as Marc Casadó or Eric García are expected to take his place in the starting 11.
