The FC Barcelona board could soon receive a formal offer for Andreas Christensen. The Dane, in the final stages of his recovery, could return to England in January
The future of Andreas Christensen seems to be pointing further away from FC Barcelona. Although the center-back hopes to return with the team in the first week of January, after missing the entire first half of the season due to injury, the plans of the Barcelona board aim to cash in with his transfer in a market where Barça is also working on two or three exits to free up enough salary mass to finally return to the 1/1 rule.
Recent information points to a bid from the 'Magpies' in the region of 15 million euros, an amount that, while it may seem somewhat low, aligns with Barcelona's minimum aspirations for the Dane. The 28-year-old defender arrived for free in the summer of 2022 and is valued at around 30 'million' on Transfermarkt. However, his long inactivity due to an injury to his left Achilles tendon affects negotiations in the winter market.
Christensen could give the 'ok' for his departure soon
For now, Hansi Flick considers Christensen as an alternative for the center of defense. With Ronald Araujo also back in action, the player from Lillerod will be the fourth center-back in the coaching staff's plans, a reason that could be decisive for the '15' to greenlight his departure. The defender knows English football perfectly after his time at Chelsea (2017-2022) and has already had other offers to return to the Premier both in 2023 and last summer.
Despite never being undisputed in the defense with Xavi Hernández on the bench, Andreas has always expressed his desire to stay in Barcelona to fight for a spot. However, the injury suffered right at the start of the 2024/25 season (he was a starter in matchday 1 of La Liga, at Mestalla) may have sealed his future as a culé, as few expected Iñigo Martínez to play at such a high level this season.
The Dane is under contract until 2026 and his clause remains at 500 million euros, but the club needs to cash in to resolve a priority issue: the registrations of Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor. With the money from the transfer, plus the amount that frees up his salary in the salary mass, it would be enough to resolve a genuine headache for the Barcelona board.
