Barça's financial problems bring Viktor Gyökeres closer to Manchester United
Manchester United insists on signing Viktor Gyökeres, the scorer from Sporting CP. Rubén Amorim, who managed to unleash all his potential after his time with the Lisbon team, prioritizes bringing him to Old Trafford to give the 'red devils' the goal scorer they have lacked for over a decade, beyond the huge sums invested in signings like Romelu Lukaku and Antony.
Although it was initially reported that Gyökeres had rejected offers from United and Arsenal, his goal seems to be to take a leap in his career and the interest from FC Barcelona has been an important factor in his decision. However, Barça's problems with financial 'Fair Play' may be decisive for the Swede to decide to pack his bags and head to England this summer.
Initially, Barça expected to strengthen without restrictions after returning to the 1:1 rule, but LaLiga's recent decision to nullify the income corresponding to the sale of the exploitation rights of the VIP boxes at the new Spotify Camp Nou puts the culés back in a dilemma. With no cash on hand and exceeding their salary margin, Barça will continue to have its hands tied to move in the market.
United tightens to leave Barça without options for Gyökeres
In this context, United seeks to deliver the final blow to close the signing of the Sporting '9' as soon as possible. Their initial offer, according to the latest reports from the English press, would be around 60 million euros, to maximize their budget in a summer where they plan a significant reconstruction after a disappointing season (13th in the Premier League with 29 points until February 2025). Even more so if, as is likely, the club misses out on the next edition of the Champions.
In fact, the 'red devils' do not rule out including Joshua Zirkzee in the operation to reduce the cost of the signing as much as possible. Zirkzee, signed for 42.5 million euros in the summer of 2024, has disappointed with only 1 goal in 16 matches and his market value has dropped to 35 'kilos'. However, being a young attacker (23 years old), the Dutchman remains an interesting backup option.
If other clubs like Arsenal or Chelsea fully enter the bidding for Gyökeres, the price could approach the upper limit of 70 million euros or even slightly exceed it if Sporting hardens its stance. However, the verbal agreement between the forward and his club suggests that the Portuguese club is willing to keep its word and not demand the full clause (100M €). Will Rubén Amorim manage to recover the goal scorer?
