Mohamed Salah defined his future with Liverpool this Friday. What does the Egyptian's renewal mean for Barça's market plan?

Calendar of FC Barcelona

Mohamed Salah, the Egyptian star of Liverpool, has renewed his contract with the 'red' team until 2027. This extension puts an end to months of speculation about his future, since his previous contract ended on June 30, 2025, which allowed him to negotiate as a free agent since January 1. FC Barcelona had been one of the clubs linked with the '11', although his high salary greatly complicated the Blaugrana options.

'Mo's' new contract implies the possibility of staying a decade with the club, since his arrival in 2017 from Roma. According to reports, the 32-year-old footballer signed for approximately 23 million euros gross per year, consolidating him as one of the highest paid players in the Premier League.

The renewal occurs after an exceptional season in which Salah has registered 32 goals and 22 assists in 45 games, leading the Premier League in goals (27) and assists (17). Not in vain, his performance has been key for the 'reds' to head towards their second league title in the last decade, after the trophy they won in 2020 with Jurgen Klopp.

Barça is still attentive to the future of another 'crack' from Liverpool

In that sense, Barça loses one more option for its forward for next summer, at least as far as free agents are concerned. Who does keep open the possibility of changing the red shirt for the Blaugrana one is Luis Díaz. The Colombian has publicly expressed his admiration for Barcelona and his desire to play for the club, which facilitates negotiations.

Sources close to the player confirm that he is "delighted" with the idea of joining the Spotify Camp Nou and, in addition, Deco considers the South American player as one of the best alternatives to reinforce the left wing. The sports director of Barça knows him well from his time at Porto and values his overflow, speed and scoring ability.

However, Liverpool values Díaz at around 60-75 million euros, a high figure for a Barça that would need to carefully manage its salary mass and possibly sell assets. In any case, the culés would try to lower his departure price, taking advantage of the fact that the Barrancas native ends his contract in 2027, a factor that could force his departure for a low amount in the summer of 2026.
