FC Barcelona has secured the future of its entire squad, at least, for the 2025/26 season after the renewal of Iñigo Martínez
The FC Barcelona board resolved the renewal of Iñigo Martínez this Thursday. The 33-year-old center-back will stay at the club for at least one more season, until June 2026, meaning that all contracts of the first team squad are up to date regarding their approval by LaLiga and the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). Barça has faced several headaches related to the resolution of several of its recent signings, something the club hopes to avoid at all costs this summer.
In the case of '5', his contract was not difficult to fit into the salary cap, taking advantage of the money received from the sale of Vitor Roque to Palmeiras. The azulgrana team earned 25 million euros net from the operation, enough to also finalize in the coming days the new contract for Lamine Yamal, who is set to sign for five years, until June 2031, now with a professional player contract, once he reaches adulthood next July.
Barça will be able to start the summer market without worries for the first time since 2021
Thus, Barça will be able to start the next summer market without worries regarding the registration of any player from the squad. In the last four years, the club faced many difficulties in registering some of its reinforcements. Iñigo started last preseason with the possibility of terminating his contract, something he never considered despite having a clause in his contract.
Even in 2023, before officially debuting, the Basque player could claim his freedom, as he only received authorization to play starting from the fourth matchday of La Liga. A similar situation was experienced by Dani Olmo this season, with his case being even more complex, as the club could only secure his registration and that of Pau Víctor until December 31 thanks to the injury of Andreas Christensen.
Well, this 2025 there will be no urgencies of that kind, at least not related to the current squad. The board, however, hopes to also resolve in the coming weeks the renewals of Frenkie de Jong and Wojciech Szczesny, with the Dutchman's being the most complex due to his salary. Furthermore, Barça is already within the 1:1 rule for signings, meaning it can invest 100% of its income in reinforcements.
