FC Barcelona would be interested in signing Inter Milan and Serie A striker Marcus Thuram; However, this acquisition poses certain complexities
The FC Barcelona apparently has its sights set on the Serie A with the aim of reinforcing its attack. As recently reported by FCBN about the rumor of the club's interest in the 27-year-old forward currently serving Atalanta, Ademola Lookman, it seems that the Blaugrana team is also interested in knowing the situation of another great 'sharpshooter' in Italian football.
According to transfer expert journalist Ekrem Konur, Barcelona would be interested in adding the name of Marcus Thuram, son of former Barça player Lilian Thuram (2006-08), who is one of the main offensive figures of Inter Milan, to their list of options to reinforce the attack.
Also, the brother of one of the players who recently sounded to reinforce Barcelona's midfield, Khéphren Thuram, has proven to be a seasoned goal scorer in the European context. Currently, he is competing for the top scorer position in the Serie A, where he has scored a total of 10 goals so far in the 2024-25 season, being surpassed only by Atalanta's Mateo Retegui, who has 12 goals. Not only that, he is also one of the top assist providers in the local tournament, with three assists, showcasing his versatility as a center forward.
Is the signing of Marcus Thuram a real option for Barcelona?
However, according to the aforementioned source, if Barcelona ultimately wishes to secure the services of this forward, it won't be easy. Mainly because Marcus Thuram, an international player with the French national team and under contract with Inter Milan until June 30, 2028, has a significant release clause of €85 million, a sum that, while not excessive in today's transactions for 'top' players, is also not easy to fit into such a negotiation.
Furthermore, it seems that Inter Milan's stance is also not inclined towards selling the player, so negotiating a lower transfer price for a player whose market value is €65 million, according to 'Transfermarkt', also does not seem like a very viable option.
Moreover, the player is not only of interest to Barcelona but also seems to attract the attention of other major European teams such as Paris Saint-Germain, Tottenham, and Arsenal. Therefore, if Barça wants to secure the services of Marcus Thuram, they will also have to face some competition from these prominent clubs. This could be a factor that weakens the interest of the Catalan team in the French player, as the team has recently made it clear that they do not intend to participate in player auctions. Will they make an exception for the French forward?
