FC Barcelona does not want to lose ground in the bid for Viktor Gyökeres. The fashionable '9' in Europe seems to be the ideal successor for Robert Lewandowski starting next season and Deco himself would already be in charge of the negotiations with his club, Sporting CP.
On Saturday, the striker extended his scoring streak with his national team, scoring the Swedes' first goal in their home victory against Slovakia (2-1). With Ruben Amorim's team, the Stockholm player has already scored 23 goals and 4 assists in 18 games in all competitions, statistics that place him as the hottest striker in Europe so far.
The first offer that Barça would have ready for Viktor Gyrökeres
In that sense, Deco does not want to waste time negotiating with the Lisbon team and has already started contacts with the 'lions' board. The latest information points to an initial offer in the order of 60 million euros, an amount that Barça was already willing to pay last summer for Nico Williams.
Gyökeres has a market value of 70 'kilos', so Barça's offer is not far from the amount that Sporting expects to bill for the '9' in 2025. Although Viktor has a contract until 2028, in Portugal they understand that it will be very difficult to retain him, at least, one more season in a second level European league.
However, the 'lions' are not willing to let him go for less than €75M. The forward has a termination clause of 100 'kilos', but everything indicates that his departure will be closed for a lower price. Coventry has 10% of a future transfer guaranteed, in accordance with the terms of the transfer that the English and Portuguese signed in 2023.
Barça will have a lot of competition for Gyökeres in 2025
In principle, the Swedish international seems to be ready to make the leap to a big team next summer, as long as he manages to maintain the level of recent weeks. In addition to Barça, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are willing to bid for the 26-year-old footballer, although the Barça proposal could be much more seductive thanks to the excellent culé sports news.
And if the upward trend continues under the orders of Hansi Flick, Barça has enough credentials to go for the treble in 2024/25. Similarly, the arrival of Gyökeres would be Joan Laporta's first top signing after the club's return to the Spotify Camp Nou, with which the Swede would be assured of a much more notable star status than he could aspire to at Old Trafford or the Park of the Princes.
In any case, the negotiations between the Barça team and Sporting CP have just begun and there will be no formal proposals until the Catalans have the necessary financial solvency to sign without restrictions, an objective still pending for the board.
