FC Barcelona could be seeing its options revitalized to sell one of its most debated assets in recent times: Eric García, since Girona apparently wants to have the defender back in its squad. Will both clubs reach an agreement?
At this point in the summer 2024/25 transfer market, FC Barcelona seems to have very few players with the status of non-transferable. Therefore, it is not surprising that they are open to listening to offers for several players, especially if these offers are economically tempting and do not greatly impact the sports planning.
In this sense, one of the names that could be leaving the Blaugrana squad is the ever-debated Eric García, who despite being registered as an eligible asset for the club in LaLiga, does not have his continuity assured for the 2024/25 season. In fact, his move to Girona, an environment he already knows well, might be closer than expected.
Girona remains hopeful of having Eric García back
Under this premise, according to 'El Nacional.cat', Míchel Sánchez's team has not lost hope of having the defender back. After winning the gold medal with Spain in the football tournament at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, his value has risen even further. In Montilivi, his value is already considerably high, as during his loan spell at the Girona team in the 2023/24 season, he proved to be the leader that 'Gironí' defense so desperately needs, both in defensive duties and in the offensive department.
In this aspect, besides being essential in building up play from the backline, he also showed an unusual goal-scoring ability. He even became the defender with the most goals in LaLiga EA Sports last season, scoring around five goals.
Considering this approach, according to the mentioned source, the people of Girona would be willing to make a significant economic effort to sign the player from Martorell and present an offer attractive enough to Barcelona, so that the club considers the option to let go of a player who apparently is part of Hansi Flick's plans. In addition to appreciating the aforementioned qualities, the German coach recognizes the importance of having a versatile player who can perform in up to three positions on the field: center back, right back, and midfielder.
Will the defender consider donning the Girona shirt again?
Now we'll have to see where this transaction leads, as although it seems to be an imminent reality that Eric García wants to continue wearing the FC Barcelona jersey, it is clear that he would be open to a departure. A possible return to Girona wouldn't be entirely unwelcome, especially considering that Girona will compete in the UEFA Champions League in the 2024/25 season. The 'shield' is highly valued in Montilivi, and there is no doubt that he would be a prominent figure in the lineup of the Madrid-born coach.
