The future of Florian Wirtz is one of the hot topics in the transfer market. The German's explosive rise has put him in the sights of the continent's top clubs, including FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, who are preparing their bids to acquire one of the greatest talents in world football for the upcoming season.

However, Bayer Leverkusen is not willing to lose its star player. With a contract until 2027, the club is aware of the gem they have in their ranks and will try to retain him for as long as possible, as confessed by the club's sporting director, Fernando Carro.

Leverkusen is working on Wirtz's renewal

"Our wish is for Florian Wirtz to play with us for as many years as possible. It would be great if he could stay until the 2026 World Cup, which would mean he would help us next season," the executive began, later confirming that the BayArena offices are working on extending the midfielder's contract.

"The chances of that happening would obviously be greater, if he renews his contract, something we are trying to do," Carro concluded, revealing that Leverkusen will not let Wirtz go easily and sending a warning to teams like Barça, Madrid, and City, who remain attentive to a 'soap opera' that could extend in the coming months.
