Barça could have made a 'double strike' this summer with the free signings of Van Dijk and Kimmich. Deco, however, decided to pass on their offers

Calendar of FC Barcelona

From the offices of FC Barcelona, and despite the fact that there is still practically half a season to play, they are already tirelessly working on planning the squad for the next season. Several top figures are aware of this situation and have been communicating their desire to wear the blue and garnet starting this summer to the club, although Deco has very clear objectives.

In fact, the newspaper 'SPORT' has reported that the Portuguese sporting director made the difficult decision to reject the offers of two world stars. Both Virgil van Dijk and Joshua Kimmich are out of contract with Liverpool and Bayern Munich, respectively, at the end of the season and they would have communicated to the Catalans that they would be willing to land in the City of Barcelona during the summer window.

However, Deco would have responded to both proposals with a resounding no. In the case of the center-back, it is true that signing a player of his stature and hierarchy for free is, at the very least, a tempting option, but the blaugrana entity believes that his profile is already occupied by Jonathan Tah, who is the top priority of the board and would be more than advanced in his arrival to the ranks of Hansi Flick.

La Masia solves Barça's 'problems'

On the other hand, the name of Kimmich has been hovering over Spotify Camp Nou since Xavi was on the bench of Barça. Despite this, and although the culés greatly value the quality of the German, the presence of young talents like Marc Bernal and Marc Casadó, in addition to Gavi, Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, and Fermín López, makes the Catalans see no need to sign the Bavarian midfielder.

Moreover, the age of both players (Kimmich just turned 30, Van Dijk is 33) is a factor that works against their possible signings, as Deco prefers to invest in young players with more career ahead of them and whose market value does not depreciate during their time at Camp Nou. The institution is aware that the real talent is in La Masia, so from now on they intend to choose with 'tweezers' those possible reinforcements that may wear the blaugrana jersey in the future.
