Joshua Kimmich is increasingly facing difficulties in renewing with Bayern Munich, so he will have to start considering offers he receives outside the Bavarian giant. Does FC Barcelona have any chance of signing him?

Calendar of FC Barcelona

The 'soap opera' surrounding Joshua Kimmich is more open than ever. It should be noted that the talented 30-year-old German midfielder and right-back's contract with Bayern Munich ends on June 30, and he is one of the few pillars of the Munich team who has not managed to steer the negotiations for the extension of his agreement with the Bavarian club, unlike Manuel Neuer (renewed until 2026), Alphonso Davies (2030), and Jamal Musiala (2030), who have already extended their agreements with the Bavarian club this season.

However, despite being one of the key names in Vincent Kompany's sports project at Bayern Munich and having significant market value, the scenario has taken an unexpected turn. It seems that 'Die Roten' has reached a point of frustration in negotiations with Joshua Kimmich and, according to reports in the sports newspaper 'BILD' in Germany, the Bavarian team has withdrawn the renewal offer that had been presented to the player some time ago.

This decision was communicated to Kimmich at the beginning of this week. All of this stems from an alleged discontent within the Bayern Munich management. It is said that the club's leadership does not understand Joshua's doubts regarding his decision, which led to the drastic measure of withdrawing the offer in order to put an end to the uncertainty (to obtain a positive or negative response) and not prolong the discussions about his contract any further.

Kimmich's doubts: the key to 'Die Roten' withdrawing their renewal proposal

Initially, Bayern Munich intended to reduce Joshua Kimmich's salary in his renewal, as he currently earns around €20 million gross per season. However, thanks to the outstanding season that the '6' is having this campaign, this idea was discarded and a slightly improved offer to his current contract was presented. Now, after the quarterly meeting of the supervisory board last Monday, the decision was made not to improve the current proposal and to withdraw it due to the ongoing doubts of the native of Rottweil.

Despite this setback for Joshua Kimmich, 'BILD' notes that the option of a contract extension is still not completely ruled out, even though the offer has been withdrawn. However, it seems that if negotiations resume, the conditions may be different, given the evident frustration within Bayern Munich. It is likely to be complicated to return to the terms of the previous proposal.

Kimmich will have to start considering his options outside Bayern Munich

At this point, it is clear that Joshua Kimmich must make a decision about his future. If he fails to reach a renewal agreement with Bayern Munich, he will have to consider the different options he may receive to change scenery.

As of today, he remains a highly sought-after asset in the international sports arena. Interest from Premier League clubs such as Manchester City, Arsenal, or Liverpool has been mentioned. There has even been speculation about a possible intention from FC Barcelona to acquire his services.

Despite having a notable 'overbooking' of star midfielders, adding a top-level midfielder like Joshua Kimmich could be attractive for Hansi Flick, although it might be financially unfeasible. Additionally, other priorities in the squad such as a left winger or a versatile full-back should also be considered.
