FC Barcelona is starting to say goodbye to its options of cashing in on Óscar Mingueza in January. The full-back is on RB Leipzig's radar, but Celta de Vigo prioritizes retaining him.
Celta de Vigo could slam the door on FC Barcelona's plans with Óscar Mingueza in the transfer market that started this week. The azulgrana board is very attentive to the possible departure of the 25-year-old defender to Germany, as the club reserved 50% of his sporting rights after his departure on a 'free transfer' in 2022. However, despite RB Leipzig's interest, the plans of the Vigo team point in another direction.
According to the program 'Ao Contrataque' from 'Radio Galega', the celeste team does not contemplate the departure of the player from Santa Perpètua de Mogoda in the winter market. On the contrary, the club aims to renew his contract, which ends in 2026, and they are very satisfied with his performance at Balaídos. Especially coach Claudio Giráldez, who considers him indispensable for his defense. Not in vain, the '3' has only missed one match in La Liga so far due to injury.
Barça, attentive to its options to cash in with Mingueza
For Barça, the future of the Catalan full-back has gained greater relevance after the azulgrana team's return to the 1:1 rule. If Mingueza were to be transferred soon for the value of his clause, the culés would receive 10 million euros net, that is, half of what RB Leipzig or any other club must pay to acquire the services of the defender. Without restrictions from 'Fair Play', Barça could invest the entire amount in a new reinforcement.
Óscar, in fact, has sounded as a 'low-cost' alternative for the right-back position after his good start to the season with Celta. However, the culé board prefers to cash in with a future sale to go for another reinforcement, with the attack being the immediate priority of the coaching staff. Although the team has been a goal-scoring machine so far, the physical problems of Ferran Torres and doubts about Pau Víctor's continuity invite the need to pursue another forward to not rely so much on Robert Lewandowski's goals.
