Will FC Barcelona want to play back Óscar Mingueza? At the moment, it is not known. However, it is evident that the Barça club, if they wish to sign him, will have to look for another alternative other than the supposed buyback option they had for him, which apparently does not exist

Calendar of FC Barcelona

The name of Óscar Mingueza has once again gained relevance in the orbit of FC Barcelona. Why? With the excellent performance he has had in the 2024/25 season in LaLiga EA Sports, accumulating up to two goals and three assists in five matches played with Celta de Vigo, speculations are beginning to gain strength. This is particularly relevant given that the Barcelona team has various ways to benefit from him.

One of the possible scenarios was the repatriation of Mingueza by FC Barcelona. Being a homegrown player and having debuted in the first team, the player from Santa Perpetua de Moguda knows the idiosyncrasies of the club. Furthermore, he is a versatile player who can play in various positions, such as midfielder, defender, and right-back.

Furthermore, this option seemed to be a 'low-cost' alternative, as according to various sources, Barça would have an option to repurchase for around nine million euros. A reasonable amount considering that the market value of the Barcelona-born player is eight million euros (according to 'Transfermarkt').

FC Barcelona would not have a buy-back option on Óscar Mingueza

However, this scenario seems to have been merely a rumor. At least that's what the sports director of Celta de Vigo, Marco Garcés, stated in his most recent appearance before the media. Garcés asserted firmly that, while FC Barcelona has ways to benefit from Mingueza, the repurchase option is not one of them: "Barcelona has a right of first refusal and 50% of a future sale. It does not have a buy-back option."

Now, it is important to note that this information partially contradicts the statement issued by the club in 2022 regarding the player's sale, where it was mentioned that the Catalan team reserved "a buy-back right for the player in the future." With this in mind, it remains to be seen if the team from the City of Counts, which holds 50% of the economic rights, will make any comments on this matter or show interest in his repatriation, although the latter option seems unlikely.

Even so, Deco, the sports director of FC Barcelona, recently expressed in an interview with 'AS' when asked about a possible return of Óscar Mingueza. "At the moment, we haven't considered his return. He is in a good moment and, of course, we are always attentive to good players," he concluded.
