Chelsea will attempt to sign Jules Koundé this summer. Barça is speeding up to 'secure' him and finalize his renewal

Since that summer of 2022 when they engaged in an exciting bidding war with FC Barcelona for his signing, Chelsea has not stopped closely following the steps of Jules Koundé. At that time, the 'blue' entity was close to acquiring his services, but a call from Xavi Hernández ultimately changed the defender's future, who has now established himself as one of the great culé stars.

The reality is that, as of today, there is no better right-back in the world than the Frenchman, which is why the Catalans consider him one of the pillars for the future of their project. However, at Stamford Bridge, they remain enamored with the Parisian and his great present, so they would have prepared an offensive to once again try to sign him at the end of the season.

This is reported by the newspaper 'SPORT', which claims that the London entity is preparing to go back in for Koundé this summer. The 'blues' want to add a center-back who can also play as a full-back, and the '23' from Barça is the favorite of the sports management.

Although the amount of the offer has not been disclosed, the player knows that his salary would be significantly increased and that he would return to playing in his natural position in the center of defense, making the proposal inevitably tempting.

Barça works to 'secure' Koundé

However, both Barça and the player himself have no intention of parting ways for the next season. In fact, the defender already has a preliminary agreement with the club to extend his contract. The player's current contract expires in June 2027, but his renewal would tie him for three more seasons, until 2030, when he turns 31 years old.

In the offices of Spotify Camp Nou, they are calm about the player's continuity. There are still details to be defined, but the agreement is on track, although it would have to wait until summer to announce it because, right now, there is not enough salary space. Despite this, the release clause for the Frenchman is one billion euros, which is why the club holds the upper hand.

Koundé, for his part, is very happy in the City of Barcelona and feels comfortable with his role in Hansi Flick's team, so his intention is to wear the blue and garnet jersey for many more years and he would be ready to give Chelsea another 'slam' if they ultimately pursue his signing at the end of the season. That said, it is crucial to extend his contract so that the culés have leverage in any future sale negotiations.
