FC Barcelona and Real Madrid will have serious difficulties in trying to sign Florian Wirtz in 2025. In addition to the huge sum that Bayer Leverkusen demands to let him go (€120M), the Catalans and the Merengues will have a tough rival in the market
Florian Wirtz's future is still a long way from being decided with Bayer Leverkusen. The 21-year-old striker, who is being targeted by FC Barcelona and Real Madrid for next season, has a contract until June 2027 and, in principle, his club will not let him go for less than 120 million euros, an amount that can vary according to his growing market value (currently listed around 130 million on Transfermarkt).
In this sense, the latest information in Germany points to a tough rival for Barça and Madrid in the 2025 summer market. Bayern Munich would be willing to enter the bidding for the Pulheim native to try to put together a much more powerful attacking trident alongside Jamal Musiala and Harry Kane. Wirtz won the double (Bundesliga and Pokal) with Xabi Alonso's men last season, scoring a total of 18 goals and 20 assists in 49 games, a performance that increased his market value significantly.
Leverkusen hope to close record deal for Wirtz
For the moment, Florian is staying out of the rumour mill and has started the 24/25 season in top form, scoring twice in the first league match against Borussia Mönchengladbach. For Leverkusen, the priority is to keep him in the squad for as long as possible and, when the striker expresses his desire to leave, wait for the best offer to close a transfer that could be a record in German football. To date, Ousmane Dembélé continues to lead the list of most expensive sales in the Bundesliga, with the €135M that Barça paid Dortmund for his signing in 2017.
Barça will not forget Wirtz or Haaland for the summer of 2025
In the case of the Blaugrana team, Joan Laporta does not rule out 'breaking' the market in the next summer market, assuming that, by then, the club will already have full freedom to reinforce itself without restrictions. The signing of a '9' is one of the priorities that Barça could set in 2025, beyond the remaining year of contract of a Robert Lewandowski who, like Wirtz, has started the season 'on fire' with 3 goals in the same number of games in LaLiga.
In addition to the Leverkusen 'crack', Barça still dreams of Erling Haaland as a possible star signing for 2025/26, another player in Madrid's orbit. In any case, it is very likely that both clubs will play a separate Clásico in the market to reinforce their attack, with a slight advantage for the 'merengues' in the financial field thanks to their wide salary margin.
