The FC Barcelona seems increasingly distant from the idea of incorporating a midfielder in this summer market of 2024. Given the team's clear priority in securing the services of Dani Olmo and a top left winger, along with the evaluation made by Hansi Flick on the internal talent available to reinforce that position, it gives the impression that the need to make a significant investment to bring in a player in that area of the field has been relegated to the background.
Even the German coach briefly mentioned this issue after the match against AC Milan, reaffirming his intention to cover the midfield needs with the players already at his disposal at the Catalan club. "We have several quality midfielders who are injured. When they return, we will be a better team and I believe I have enough players there", he noted.

This approach makes sense, as for example, Frenkie de Jong could play in the midfield position despite still recovering from a severe grade II ankle sprain. Additionally, the option of trying Pablo Gavi in that position has also been considered, given his ability in terms of pressure, recovery, and ball control, an idea that seems to be gaining strength in the club's planning.
Furthermore, it is not necessary to rely solely on injured players to meet this need. For example, the duo of midfielders Marc Casadó and Marc Bernal, whom the German coach tested during the preseason in the United States and left a good impression, could emerge as valid options to reinforce this position, despite their lack of experience in the First Division.
Likewise, the option of relying on the experience of İlkay Gündoğan, who has played as a midfielder in the past, is mentioned, as well as the alternative of Andreas Christensen, a player with more defensive characteristics. All of these are viable alternatives for the German coach, who will surely find the best way to make use of the resources available in the squad.
