The future of Eric García continues to generate doubts at FC Barcelona. Although Hansi Flick is counting on him, his role as a substitute pivot could lead the defender to agree to return to Girona in January, an option that he already had on the table this summer

Calendar of FC Barcelona

Eric García could be one of the casualties of FC Barcelona in the next winter market. Although the club does not usually make many moves in January, the defender is one of the options that the board considers to make money and, at the same time, open the door to some reinforcement for the second half of the season. The 23-year-old center back has added minutes in the four League games for which he has been available, but always as a substitute.

And, although Hansi Flick is counting on him for the rest of the season, the role of alternative for the defensive pivot does not seem to satisfy the defender, understanding that, if he returned to Girona, he would be guaranteed a starting position. Eric was a fundamental piece for Míchel in 2023/24 and the Catalans do not rule out trying to sign him again in January, with an offer that satisfies the interests of a Barça still in trouble with 'Fair Play'.

The money that Barça would earn from the sale of Eric García

In principle, the transfer of García would leave around 15 million euros in the culés' coffers. The '24' has a contract until June 2026 and, considering that he arrived free in 2021 from Manchester City, the negotiation with Girona should not have too many issues to resolve. At the moment, the defender has 84 minutes of action spread over 4 League days. He only missed the clash against Rayo due to discomfort in his right foot.

Looking ahead to the winter market, the player will have the last word to define his future. As long as Flick continues to opt for Marc Casadó as the starting '5', it is very likely that he will agree to return to Girona in the winter, since as a center back he does not have many options to fight for the position with the Iñigo-Cubarsí duo. In addition, the return of Frenkie de Jong will also limit his opportunities in midfield, as long as the Dutchman completely overcomes his muscular problems.
