The FC Barcelona board closed the renewal of Fermín López this Thursday. For the second consecutive year, the midfielder extended his contract, this time until 2029 and with important adjustments to his salary and clause

Calendar of FC Barcelona

Fermín López renewed his contract with FC Barcelona this Thursday for two more years, until June 2029. As agreed between the parties, the midfielder, accompanied by the president Joan Laporta, the first vice president, Rafa Yuste, and the sports director of the Club, Deco, extended his link with the club he joined in 2016 when he was just 13 years old.

In this way, the 21-year-old player will have an important readjustment in his file. Last season, the El Campillo player's net salary was barely 250,000 euros, one of the lowest in the squad, since the '16' returned to the club with a reserve team contract after his loan to Linares.

Fermín's clause rises to 500 million euros

In addition, the club updated Fermín's clause with a slight adjustment compared to his previous contract. Whoever wants to take the midfielder will have to pay 500 million euros, 100 kilos more than the amount set in 2023.

The Andalusian was on the radar of Manchester United and Tottenham last summer. The Red Devils offered a figure close to €30M to secure his transfer, but the club had already agreed to renew the footballer after his brilliant performance with Spain at the Paris Olympic Games.

López was the top scorer for La Roja with 6 goals and was chosen as the 'MVP' of a tournament in which the Spanish U-23 team left the big favorite to take the gold, France, in a dramatic final (5 -3). Hence the club decided to reward him with a new contract, in addition to continuing its renewal policy.

Third renewal for Fermín at Barcelona

Fermín arrived at La Masia in 2016 and, at the moment, has three renewals with Barça. The one from Huelva had renewed in August 2023 until 2027, after earning a place in the team led by Xavi Hernández.

López returned from a season on loan to Linares in July 2023 and, although a new loan departure seemed imminent, it didn't take him long to convince the Egarense to count on him as a catalyst for a midfield that missed players like Frank Kessié.

In a year and a half, the '16' has 11 goals and 3 assists in 48 official appearances with the first team. In addition, the midfielder already won a European Championship and an Olympic gold medal with Spain at the age of 21. Without a doubt, he is one of the 'pearls' with the best projection in the Barça team and, therefore, the board has not hesitated to bet on his continuity.
