FC Barcelona has apparently tested Benjamin Šeško as a possible option to reinforce its forward line. However, Leipzig's position regarding his sale could complicate the interests of the culé club
The FC Barcelona is actively monitoring various alternatives with the aim of strengthening the center forward position for the upcoming summer transfer market. Although Robert Lewandowski is the undisputed reference as the team's '9', backed by players like Pau Víctor and Ferran Torres, FC Barcelona is looking for a different profile with international experience.
Among the options considered to strengthen FC Barcelona's offense, the 21-year-old forward, Benjamin Šeško, currently at RB Leipzig, is one of them. The Slovenian international has shown great power and goal-scoring instinct, characteristics that set him apart from the static '9' prototype, being more of a rather complete forward who could fit into the Blaugrana's sporting project.
RB Leipzig won't let their top scorer leave so easily
However, negotiating for Benjamin Šeško might not be easy, as he is currently a key piece at RB Leipzig, a team that seems unwilling to sell him in the winter transfer market. The Sports Director, Marcel Schäffer, has dismissed the rumors of a possible departure of the Slovenian striker, emphasizing his importance to the team.
"Definitely, there is no contact with any other club or conversations about Benjamin Sesko. We are very happy to have 'Benji' in our team. He is one of the best offensive talents in Europe and currently in excellent form. He will continue to wear the RB Leipzig shirt," expressed Schäffer to 'Sky Sports Germany'.
On the other hand, this message aligns with recent statements by the 'Die Roten Bullen' coach, Marco Rose, who after the post-match of the RB Leipzig-Sporting CP in matchday seven of the UEFA Champions League, did not hesitate to support the continuity of Benjamin Šeško in the German squad. "Is Benjamin Šeško staying? Yes, that is still the case for us," the coach also stated to 'Sky Sports Germany'.
Will FC Barcelona launch a bid for the signing of Benjamin Šeško?
With this in mind, it wouldn't be surprising if, looking ahead to the next summer transfer market, they maintain that reluctance to sell a key player in their sporting project whom they have under contract until June 30, 2029. Therefore, if Barcelona wishes to secure his services, apart from competing with other European giants like Arsenal, they will need to explore the necessary avenues if they intend to make a move for a forward who is rumored to have a minimum release clause of €75 million.
