Espanyol makes a radical decision regarding Joan García, the goalkeeper under Barça's radar.

Calendar of FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona would have fewer and fewer options to enter the bidding for Joan García this summer. The Espanyol goalkeeper has been one of the revelations of LaLiga 2024-25, collecting saves and great performances with Manolo González's team despite conceding 39 goals in 27 matches played in the tournament. However, the 'blanquiazul' team is not willing to negotiate with their Catalan neighbors.

García has a contract until June 2028 and his release clause is 30 million euros. However, the price is halved if the 'pericos' are relegated to Segunda, a possibility that remains latent, as the club is just one point above the relegation zone, although for now they occupy 15th place (Leganés, 18th, has 27 points).

Espanyol would prefer to send Joan García to ¡Real Madrid!

In this regard, journalist Eduardo Inda stated on the program 'El Chiringuito de Jugones' that the 'perico' team has not only ruled out negotiating with Barça for Joan García, in case the culés show interest in the Spanish goalkeeper in the short or medium term. For the 'blanquiazules', the best option would be to send the player from Sallent de Llobregat to Real Madrid, in order not to see him dressed in blue and garnet.

"Espanyol has communicated to Real Madrid that they prefer to sell him to them rather than to Barcelona", Inda assured. For Barça, the possible departure of Iñaki Peña next summer could force the signing of another goalkeeper, as long as Wojciech Szczesny rules out renewing with the team.

If the Pole stays another year, the club will have the goal covered with Marc-André ter Stegen and Diego Kochen as a third option. Will Barça sign another goalkeeper this year? It all depends on the evolution of the German (who should return this summer) and the position of Szczesny, who, for now, seems convinced to stay at the club.
