One of FC Barcelona's priorities for the future is to strengthen the right-back position, and for this reason, they have an ambitious plan to strengthen the team led by Hansi Flick, which would include an old acquaintance and one of the best footballers in Germany
FC Barcelona know they need to reinforce their right-back position soon, so they already have a plan to achieve their goal. Right now, Hansi Flick is using Jules Koundé, but the Blaugrana would like to have other options available, which would include an experienced Bayern Munich player and an old acquaintance who is playing for Celta.
Remember that right-back is not Koundé's natural position, as the Frenchman used to play as a centre-back. However, it should be noted that he has been doing a great job in his new role. His performance has earned him a starting role under both Flick and Didier Deschamps in the French national team and he now confidently assumes his role on the pitch, which he will occupy for the entire season. Hector Fort will be his substitute, although he is the only Barça player who has not played a single minute in four games.
Despite this, the Blaugrana board tried to sign Joao Cancelo this summer, but the Portuguese was sold to Al-Hilal of the Saudi Pro League by Manchester City, so they know they must look for other options, so they already have two players in their sights who could fit well into Flick's scheme.
Kimmich and Mingueza are Barça's favourites
According to information from 'Mundo Deportivo', the two clear favourites are Joshua Kimmich and Óscar Mingueza. The German has been on Barcelona's list of interest for years, being one of the best in midfield. Despite the fact that right back is not his natural position, his versatility makes him an extremely interesting player, so he could fit in without problems.
The Bayern Munich player has not yet renewed his contract with the Bavarian team, which ends in June 2025. This summer he was rumored to leave the club, but he opted to stay and face his first season under Vincent Kompany. Germany is confident of renewing his contract, but everything will depend on what the captain of the German team decides to do with his future.
For his part, Mingueza, 25 years old, is an old acquaintance of the club. He is currently part of Celta, with whom he has a contract until 2026. Until that year, Barça has a buyback option of 9 million euros. In addition, the Blaugrana club secured 50% of the economic rights of his future sale with a clause of 20 million euros. The Spaniard would be a more viable alternative on a financial level, but there has not yet been an approach, so everything could change in the next transfer market.
