Robert Lewandowski has dispelled any doubts about his continuity at FC Barcelona in the first three months of 2024/25. The '9' is already the top scorer in LaLiga and the Champions League, which means he is well on his way to signing his best year at the Blaugrana team. This leads the Barça board to define its roadmap for the future of the Warsaw native much earlier than expected.
And beyond the salary issue ('Lewy' earns 32 million euros gross this season), the 36-year-old striker is justifying his status as the highest-paid player in the squad with goals.
In 2025/26, his salary will drop again to 26 'kilos', a relief for the finances of a Barça that, in 2025, hopes to have the solvency that it has lacked during the last five years.
Lewandowski has another year of contract with Barça
In any case, 'Lewy's' future at Barcelona is not at risk. According to the contract that the '9' signed in 2022, the player would secure a fourth season at the club if, during his third year (2024/25), he played at least 55% of the games for which he was available.
Each match counts as official if the player completes at least 45 minutes, either as a starter or entering after the break. So far this season, Robert has been in the XI in all the games played by the team both in the League (12) and in the Champions League (4), adding 1,303 minutes of action with 19 goals and 2 assists.
Barça do not rule out having Robert until 2027
Likewise, the option of extending Robert's contract for another year, until 2027, remains on the table, although the club will only address this issue well into 2024. Both the striker and the board remain completely calm on the contractual side, as the renewal will not be a headache for 2025/26.
If he extends his contract with the Blaugrana team, 'Lewy' could complete five years at the club. The Pole spent eight seasons at Bayern Munich, a club that reluctantly accepted his departure in 2022 in exchange for 45 million euros fixed plus another 5 extra in variables.
The signing of a '9' could be a priority in 2025
Beyond the confidence generated by the Pole's excellent form, both Deco and Hansi Flick are still keeping an eye on the market 'bargains' that the club can take advantage of next summer. At the moment, the signing of another centre forward does not seem to be a priority for 2025, but everything will depend on how Lewandowski ends the season.
Barça has its sights set on forwards such as Florian Wirtz, Jonathan David and Erling Haaland, both with very high salaries that seem more feasible to address in 2026 than next year. However, the board is confident of having the necessary financial margin to amortize a 'bomb' signing in the next summer transfer window.
In principle, any of these three attackers would imply a high outlay for the Catalans, with Lille's '9' being the most affordable due to his price (around 50 million euros). On the other hand, both Wirtz and Haaland will far exceed the 100 million mark when they decide to change teams.
The other option for Barça would be to go for the signing of a '9' with a lower profile, but with the talent and character necessary to cover the backs of a Lewandowski who will start the 2025/26 season at just 37 years old. The Pole predicted in 2023 that he had at least "three or four more years" left at the top level. For now, his prediction is coming true.
