Barça wants to renew Gavi's contract. However, his contract extension will not be negotiated until he rejoins Hansi Flick's team
Gavi's contract is one of the biggest issues facing FC Barcelona. The Andalusian midfielder's contract expires on June 30, 2026, and the offices at the Spotify Camp Nou intend to continue counting on him as one of the pillars of the club's future. However, his serious knee injury, which has kept him out for almost a year, disrupted the club's plans regarding the improvement and extension of his contract.
So far, neither the club's sports management nor the player's entourage have met to begin negotiations for the '6's' new commitment. Despite this, both his representative, Iván de la Peña, and Gavi himself are aware of Deco's intentions, which would involve guaranteeing the player's continuity one year before the end of the current contract to avoid the 'irruption' of other clubs and increase the pressure on the talks.
Barça wants to wait for Gavi's return
According to 'SPORT', in the first contacts held several weeks ago, both parties agreed that it is not the right time to try to reach an agreement and start the numbers game and the rumours in the media that could affect the footballer's recovery.
The priority for both Gavi and the team is to complete the final phase of his process, which is already in the phase of readaptation to the field of play and it is expected that he can definitively rejoin the first team once the international break is over. Although there is still no exact date, everything indicates that the medical discharge could come at the end of October.
What is clear is that both parties agree on the desire to sign Gavi's contract extension. A scenario that would take place after the footballer returns to the shorts after almost a year of inactivity and that would be led by Deco, who will activate the machinery when the footballer is 100% recovered to try to seal the future agreement.
